Rema’s super exclusive and much anticipated listening party for Heis, his just-released sophomore album, will go down as a hard-to-top event. The venue was decked with punk-inspired decor and an audience bristling with style. Celebrities like Crayon, Korty, Zerry DL, Kida Kudz, Carter Efe, Khaid, and Dice Ailes were in attendance, adding to the excitement of the night. The highlight, of course, was Rema’s performance — An exhilarating immersion into the sable-coloured universe of the 24-year-old genius.
Hosted at Vanity Lagos, Rema, draped in all-black, performed songs from his freewheeling sophomore album Heis to an enthused crowd. Atop the stage with him were a contingent of acolytes. Many of them are popular faces — Crayon, Korty, Dice Ailes, Kida Kudz, Carter Efe, and Zerry DL, to name a few.
Amidst the punk themed walls of the club, the crowd, most of whom were fitted with capes from Spotify emblazoned with “HEIS”, stomped and jostled, as the high octane music lit up the dance floor.
The bromance between Crayon and Rema is a major highlight of the party. From the start, the chemistry between the duo was tangible. Whether it was pulling away at certain moments to subtly confer with Crayon or wrapping a shoulder around him. These all culminated in the performance of the Album’s closer and the concluding passage to the show Now I Know — An introspective ballad that sees him recount his many struggles and peel back layers of buried pain.
It comes as a rare moment of catharsis, after the boisterous pummeling that preceded it. Before performing the song, he spoke of his love for Crayon. On how the project was originally planned to contain just 10 songs, at the last minute he added Now I Know, dedicated to Crayon.
