Love continues to be one of the most dominant themes in Nigerian music with a lion’s share of the commercially successful songs over the past year telling tales of endearment. Runtown has particularly shifted towards the theme of love and in the process managed to ignite the hottest streak of his career which began with Mad Over Youin November 2016 and has been followed up by Pain Killerand now For Life.
For Life, serves as yet another reference point for the influence of Ghanaian dancehall on what’s reigning in today’s Nigerian music scene as Runtown teams up with Krizbeatz who has used the last year as a launching board with production credits on Pana and more recently, Erima. On the record, Runtown maintains the slow tempo he has familiarised himself with on his latest releases and asserts his desire to fight if need be for the love of his life. He also delivers some lines that will surely enter the “If she follow me go/ Na enjoyment go kill am o” hall of fame.
The video which was shot in London and directed by Meji Alabi features still images in contrast to what we see in most music videos today while also serving scenes of Runtown and a lover that would probably have led your parents to ask you to close your eyes if they came on back in the day.
