The VVS Lagos 2024 experience brought together a community of creative collaborators from July 2nd – 7th. The event was powered by the Lagos State Government and Lagos State Tourism Board, with the support of Heineken. Themed “The Luxury of Authenticity and Collaborations”, the event spotlighted African fashion’s authenticity, dynamism, innovativeness and uniqueness, reiterating the continent’s contributions to global creativity and technology.
Set in the scenic John Randle Museum in Onikan, Lagos, the event was an amalgam of enlightening panel discussions, art exhibitions, live performances and thrilling shopping experiences for global fashion enthusiasts and icons. It was graced by the Lagos Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs Toke Benson-Awoyinka; and Permanent Secretary for Tourism, Mrs Toyin Atekoya.
The event was a melting pot of industry professionals showcasing the latest collections from top brands, with key figures in the creative industry such as superstar artists D’banj, Seun Kuti, Oxlade, Runtown, Leriq, and Hollywood icon Ugo Mozie among other art and technology enthusiasts making it a memorable occasion. One of the surprises of the occasion was the captivating performance from Runtown.
There were eight brands on display, namely Azach, Imata Studios, Whytace, Jason Porshe, The Keeper Of The Wardrobe, Hubris World, Kadiju and I.N Official, all of which created an exotic atmosphere for the appreciation of high-quality fashion. The show also involved celebrity models, among others.
The event featured an exceptional art exhibition titled “The Nigerian Utopia”, curated by Ifeanyi Nwune and Eyimofe Ideh, which spotlighted 24 incredible young Nigerian artists presenting their stories from unique perspectives. Artists included VVS frequent collaborator Ken Nwadiogbu and other budding talents like Hanson Okere, Ayogu Kingsley, John Madu, Maureen Uzoh, Dricky, Toni Akerele, David Azegbe-Otaru, Chinaza Nkemka, Christopher Samuel Idowu, Muritado Azeez, Seun Akinlo, Asemokha Imomoh, Emmanuel Udoka, Jahyem Jombo, Abiola Oladotun, Victoria Oniosun, Josiah C. Josiah, Oshorenoya David Francis, Paschal Ugwu, Emeka Ilechukwu, and Mosun Mewase.
The exceptional panel had Reni Folawiyo of Alara Luxury Concept Store, Korede Roberts, Victor Ehikamenor, Tee Y Mix and other industry giants. The conversations branched into various topics, including the future of fashion in Africa and the need for sustainability and innovation in the African fashion industry. Tapping from a wealth of hands-on experience, attendees, including fast-rising creatives and professionals, felt stimulated and fulfilled beyond imagination.
VVS Lagos 2024 ended in grand style, leaving behind beautiful memories that will be cherished by creatives in attendance. From the carefully crafted fashion shows to the art exhibitions and insightful discussions, the occasion mirrored Lagos’s vibrant and eclectic spirit.
